2010 Community Grant Program Survey Results

In 2010, Wetzin’kwa Community Forest Corporation will grant up to $110,000 to support local projects and programs led by non-profit and charity organizations in Smithers, Telkwa and Moricetown.  To gather broad community input on the Community Grant Program, the Wetzin’kwa Board of Directors conducted a short survey.  The following link contains the results of the Survey.

2011 Community Grant Program

The Community Grant Program (CGP) was established as a means of distributing the profits derived from the operation of the Wetzin’kwa Community Forest tenure back into the community.  The key objective of the program is to provide support for a broad range of projects and initiatives that will return the greatest long term benefit to residents of the Bulkley Valley.

For 2011, approximately $150,000 will be distributed through the CGP. Wetzin'kwa is now seeking grant applications. Grant awards are limited to a maximum of $10,000 per successful applicant.

Completion Timetable

The application deadline for the current grant intake is May 31, 2011. Final Board decisions regarding successful grant applications are scheduled for June 20, 2011

 Application process

In order to apply, activities must be carried out in Moricetown, Smithers, Telkwa or the Bulkley Valley by a not-for-profit organization (registered charitable status is not required).

2009 Grant Results

$90,000 of the funds were directed to regional economic development, community well-being and recreation.

Recipients include the B.V. Brain Injury Association, B.V. Child Care Society, B.V. Research Centre, the Dze L K’ant Friendship Centre, the Friends of the Smithers Public LIbrary, the Moricetown Band Council, the Noble Spirit Equine Learning Centre Society, The Northern Society for Domestic Peace, the Office of the Wet’suwet’en, the Smithers Alpine Rotary Club, the Smithers Art Gallery, the Smithers Community Services Association, and the Smithers District Chamber of Commerce/Lions Club.

$30,000 was reserved for groups with operations within the forests’ boundaries, and include the Cross Country Ski Club, the Community Forest Society, the B.V. Backpackers Society, and the Smithers Ski Club.
